Statement by H.E. Mr. Motohide Yoshikawa
Permanent Representative of Japan to the United Nations
At the Presentation of the Instrument of Acceptance
of the Arms Trade Treaty by Japan
9 May 2014
It is a great pleasure for me to deposit today the instrument of acceptance of the Arms Trade Treaty by the Government of Japan.
As one of the Treaty’s co-authors, Japan is very proud to have been able to make a substantial contribution to the ATT.
The Diet of Japan approved the Treaty two weeks ago, and the final official decision to accept the Treaty was made today by a Cabinet decision.
Taking this opportunity, I would like to encourage all countries that have not yet done so, to sign and ratify the Treaty as soon as possible.
I would also like to reaffirm our commitment to play an active and constructive role with a view to the Treaty’s early entry into force and its effective implementation.
