Mme. Chair,

Japan thanks the Secretariat for the presentation of the revised estimates for the special political missions for 2026, and the Advisory Committee for its valuable observations and recommendations.

We appreciate that the proposal reflects a culture of efficiency, ensuring that resources are directed where they are most needed, for effective mandate delivery.
Taking this opportunity, Japan also express its sincere appreciation to the valuable work each Mission is conducting on the ground.

The UN80 reform presents a chance to advance rejuvenation, promote gender equality, and achieve geographical diversity. Japan is eager to see these directions pursued diligently throughout the reform process including in SPMs.

Looking ahead, we understand that a comprehensive proposal for restructuring the peace and security pillar will be submitted early next year under UN 80, taking into account the ongoing review of peacekeeping operations. Japan hopes that this will lead to deeper, institutional reform through improved coordination and rationalization among relevant entities.

Lastly, we remain committed to engaging in the following discussions in the fifth committee in a manner itself effective and efficient to achieve a consensus.

Thank you, Mme. Chair.
