和平プロセスにおける女性参画に関する事務総長共同プレッジハイレベル会合における山﨑大使ステートメント
令和7年10月28日

(As delivered)
Thank you, Chair.
First of all, let me express my respect to the women negotiators and mediators who have shared their invaluable insights from their dedication to peace processes at this meeting.
As we mark the 25th anniversary of Security Council Resolution 1325, this meeting presents an opportunity to reflect on our achievements, reaffirm the critical importance of women's participation, and identify future challenges and opportunities.
Japan attaches great importance to long-term efforts extending from conflict prevention to mediation and peacebuilding. We have consistently advocated for comprehensive approaches to sustaining peace and the importance of building resilient institutions focused on people. We firmly believe that enhancing women's roles is the cornerstone of sustainable peace.
This year, Japan serves as a co-chair of the WPS Focal Points Network with Norway, taking a lead in the global commitment to advance the WPS agenda. Meaningful discussions on women's roles in peace processes were held at the Tokyo meeting in February, followed by the High-Level Side Event in September in New York, where we emphasized the importance of translating commitment into concrete actions at the national, regional, and international levels.
Last year, Japan launched the "Initiative for Women’s Human Resources Development for Peace in the Horn of Africa." Under this initiative, we provide trainings to women leaders from IGAD member states, aiming to enhance local peacebuilding capacities and foster international networks.
Additionally, Japan is committed to nurturing young leaders who will drive the future of WPS. In December, we plan to host the "Next Generation Forum for Gender Equality" in Tokyo, together with UN University. This will offer a platform for future leaders to discuss gender equality and peacebuilding, and to lead concrete actions in the future.
Through such initiatives, Japan remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting women's participation in peace processes.
I thank you.
