「2026年人間の安全保障アワード」授賞式イベントにおける山﨑大使ステートメント
令和8年6月22日

Thank you, Mr. Director Nasser, Excellencies, Dear Colleagues,
As one of the Co-Chairs of the Group of Friends of Human Security, I am delighted to hold today’s ceremony.
At the outset, I would like to thank all the guests for their participation, including UNDP Administrator De Croo, UNICEF Executive Director Russell, and Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri, as well as the representatives of the programs to be awarded.
We, the Co-Chairs of the Group of Friends, strongly believe in the relevance of human security and its potential to contribute to
the achievement of three pillars of the UN, namely peace and security, human rights, and development. Convinced of the value of this concept, we established the “Human Security Awards” to further raise its profile. The Awards seek to demonstrate how human security can deliver tangible improvements in the survival, livelihoods, and dignity of people and to inspire future efforts both within and beyond the UN system.
While the final awardees for this inaugural year will be announced later, I can say that they are diverse in geography, context, and thematic focus. They address challenges ranging from environmental degradation, climate change, and displacement, to violence, fragile livelihoods, weak governance, health risks, and social exclusion.
Across this diversity, what these selected programs have in common is that they embody the essence of human security: protecting and empowering individuals, fostering local ownership, strengthening resilience, contributing to humanitarian-development-peace nexus, and advancing human-centered solutions to today’s complex challenges.
I hope that today’s event will help to further promote human security and lead to the improvement of living conditions of people around the world.
Thank you.
