国連総会決議「持続可能な開発のための安全、安心で信頼できるAIシステムに係る機会活用」採択後の山﨑大使ステートメント

As one of its first co-sponsors, Japan wholeheartedly welcomes the historic adoption of the UN’s first-ever AI resolution by consensus just a while ago at the General Assembly Hall. Japan would like to extend our utmost appreciation to Her Excellency Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield of the United States and her dedicated team for leading us until today.
Japan has been promoting the discussion on the governance of advanced AI systems for the achievement of safe, secure, and trustworthy AI through the “Hiroshima AI Process.”
Japan strongly believes that the consensual adoption of this epoch-making resolution, co-sponsored by more than 100 countries, will provide a sound foundation for developing international frameworks for AI governance and fostering an enabling environment for AI systems to address the challenges facing the world.
We believe that the use of AI systems can accelerate the achievement of the SDGs, when risks are properly addressed, and we hope this resolution will contribute to closing the digital divide and ensuring the use of AI systems for the benefit of all.
We expect that the resolution will inform and provide important inputs to the ongoing discussions on AI at the UN toward the Summit of the Future in September, including the Global Digital Compact, the Pact for the Future and the AI High Level Advisory Body. Japan will continue to actively engage in these discussions on AI at the UN.
