国連経済社会理事会創設80周年記念イベントにおける山﨑大使ステートメント
令和8年1月23日

Thank you, Mr. President,
I wish to commend the contributions of ECOSOC to development agenda over the past 80 years, while recognizing the reality of the numerous challenges we face. Today’s meeting holds great significance. I express my sincere respect for your leadership and my deep gratitude for the contributions of the panelists.
Humanity faces so many interconnected grave challenges which put to the test the value of the multilateral system. Cooperation among Member States in ECOSOC is crucial and needed more than ever for further advancing in three pillars of the UN: peace and security, human rights and development. And Japan will continue to promote the “human security” approach in advocating the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus.
The UN system must become more efficient. ECOSOC's activities are wide-ranging, and we should take a bird's-eye view to focus on priorities under UN80.
Steady follow-through on the “Pact for the Future” is essential to achieve the SDGs. Alongside efforts in traditional areas such as health and education, it is crucial to foster an environment where emerging technologies, including AI, benefit everyone. Japan is committed to actively contributing to the work looking beyond 2030 in ECOSOC.
Thank you.
