アフガニスタンの女性フレンズ・グループ会合における山中大使ステートメント
令和4年10月19日
(As delivered)
I would like to express my appreciation to the Permanent Missions of Qatar and the United Kingdom, and co-sponsors for convening this important and informative meeting today. I also thank the women panelists from Afghanistan, and DSRSG Alakbarov for their comprehensive and first-hand account briefings. To ensure gender equality and Human Security in Afghanistan, Japan has been addressing the human rights of all Afghans including women and girls, particularly, respecting the rights of women and girls, helping resume secondary education for women, and their full, equal and meaningful participation in work.
To this end, in partnership with UN Women, this year, in Afghanistan, Japan has been supporting protection and life-saving services for survivors of violence, including gender-based violence, as well as the economic empowerment of women through livelihood skills training, and enhancing the leadership of women CSOs. We continue to implement feasible actions, and then expand the actions on the ground together with UN agencies and civil society actors.
Japan also requests the UNAMA to continue to closely monitor and report on the human rights situation with a focus on the situation of women and girls on the ground, including those from minority communities, and continue to engage with all relevant political actors and stakeholders. As an incoming Security Council member in 2023, Japan looks forward to continuing to work on this shared mission together with this friends group, and women in Afghanistan.
Thank you Chair.
