ハリケーン・ベリルを受けた人道状況に関するブリーフィングにおける山中大使によるステートメント

Distinguished Colleagues and Esteemed Speakers,

I’d like to start by thanking OCHA for convening this important event, and also I’d like to thank Dr. Gonsalves, the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Mr. Andall, Foreign Minister of Grenada for their comprehensive and vivid briefings on the devastating impact of Hurricane Beryl on the humanitarian situation.

I’d also like to express our thanks to CDIMA, and the Eastern Caribbean Resident Coordinator for their hard work of crucial coordination for emergency assistance.

The Government of Japan conveys its deepest condolences to the victims of this severe hurricane. We would also like to convey our heartfelt solidarity with the communities as they strive for a swift recovery and the restoration of their homes and livelihoods.

In response to these dire situations, Japan provided emergency relief goods, such as tents, water purifiers and portable jerrycans, on July 10 to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and on July 15 to Jamaica.

Most recently, we decided to provide emergency relief goods on July 17 to Grenada, all through the Japan International Cooperation Agency, which we callJICA, at their respective request.

The assistance reflects Japan’s enduring friendship with these countries and our steadfast commitment to providing humanitarian aid, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Japan remains resolute in its commitment to help those affected by Hurricane Beryl, prioritizing improving the well-being of the affected people. On top of this, Japan also remains committed to helping other developing countries tackle challenges caused by climate change on the human security perspectives.
