Thank you, Mr. President.
At the outset, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Madam Executive Director for her comprehensive remarks.
Regarding UN80 Initiative, Japan continuously supports the objectives and the ongoing efforts being made. As a longstanding partner of UN Women, Japan looks forward to continuing meaningful engagement in its process. In this regard, I would like to make a few comments.
First, we would like to thank the UN Women Secretariat for its continued efforts to keep the Executive Board informed through information-sharing on multiple occasions including further evidence and analysis on both the potential merger scenario and on alternative options, which were recently presented to Member States.
These additional analyses and information further underscore the importance of grounding the reform process in objective and careful assessment. In this regard, we wish to reiterate that achieving meaningful reform requires evidence-based analysis and careful deliberation on the benefits and costs of the reform. As discussions move forward, we will continue to remain focused on ensuring that the original mandates of both organizations are fully preserved across all options under consideration.
As a final point, I’d like to highlight Japan’s commitment to implementing the Women, Peace and Security agenda where UN Women plays an important role. Through its dedicated work, both at the headquarters level and frontline, UN Women has been a steadfast partner of Japan in advancing the WPS agenda.
Mr. President,
Japan, as an Executive Board member, will continue to work closely with UN Women in further advancing its mandate.
Before concluding, I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to Mr. Jean-Luc Bories for his fifteen years of dedicated service to UN Women and the Executive Board. I wish him all the very best for his new endeavor.
