国連女性機関(UN Women)執行理事会2025年第2回年次会合における梅津大使ステートメント
令和7年9月9日

(As delivered)
Thank you, Madam President.
At the outset, I would like to thank you, Madam President, for your leadership during this year as the president of this executive board. I would also like to thank Madam Executive Director for her continued leadership, and comprehensive and insightful opening remarks.
Japan welcomes the new Strategic Plan 2026 to 2029, which recognizes the pivotal moment in the pursuit of the 2030 Agenda and marks significant milestones such as the 15th anniversary of UN Women, the 25th anniversary of Security Council resolution 1325 and the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration. We welcome that the strategy advances cross-organizational reform and strengthens partnerships.
As a longstanding partner, Japan supports the integrated approach across peace and security, human rights, and development, as well as the continued emphasis on crisis response, economic empowerment, and women and girls’ leadership. We particularly value the Plan’s alignment with UN system-wide goals and its responsiveness to emerging global challenges, including climate change and digital transformation.
The year-over-year increase in Other Resources (OR) contributions clearly demonstrates that many Member States support the efforts of UN Women and their continuation. Japan hopes to see resources utilized appropriately and even more efficiently moving forward.
This year, Japan has contributed approximately 13 million USD to UN Women. The contribution supports global operations and projects, including a WPS program that assists the development of regional and national WPS Action Plans, as well as projects in Africa, the Middle East and Afghanistan to strengthen women’s resilience, empowerment, and leadership.
As co-chair of the WPS Focal Points Network with Norway this year, Japan reaffirms its strong commitment to advancing the WPS agenda.
To conclude, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the staff of UN Women for their tireless efforts. Japan trusts that the new Strategic Plan will further enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of its work. Japan reaffirms its commitment to working closely with UN Women as a bureau member.
Thank you.
