第18回障害者権利条約締約国会合における梅津大使ステートメント

令和7年6月11日

(As delivered)

Thank you, Madam President. I would like to thank Madam President, the bureau members, and the secretariat for organizing this session.

In line with the guiding principles of the Convention, Japan has engaged with this conference actively through the participation of panelists and by having previously organized side events such as on disaster risk reduction, Hansen’s disease, Down Syndrome, and women and girls with disabilities. This year, Japan is pleased to co-sponsor a side event with Italy focusing on leisure and recreation.

Japan is also pleased that Mr. TAMON Hiroshi, an experienced Japanese lawyer, commenced his term as a member of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in January this year. We believe that his legal expertise and substantial accomplishments will significantly contribute to promoting and protecting the human rights of all persons with disabilities.

Madam President,

It is timely that this year’s theme focuses on the upcoming Second World Summit for Social Development. The Summit can serve to further our endeavor to realize a world where no one is left behind, deepening our consideration of how to respond to the challenges of those in vulnerable situations, including persons with disabilities.

Global efforts in this area should be centered on empowering individuals—including persons with disabilities—by upholding “human dignity,” the core principle of human security. Japan remains committed to partnering with the international community to promote inclusive societies and the empowerment of persons with disabilities.

Thank you.
