第19回障害者権利条約締約国会合における梅津大使ステートメント
令和8年6月10日

(As delivered)
Thank you, Madam President.
I would like to extend my appreciation to the Bureau and the Secretariat for organizing this session.
This year marks the milestone 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). On this occasion, it is important to reaffirm the purpose and principles of the Convention in guiding our collective efforts toward ensuring the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities.
As a State Party to the CRPD, Japan will continue to actively participate in international discussions and promote progress. For example, at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) ministerial segment held in New York last year, State Minister for Foreign Affairs MIYAJI introduced an initiative by a wheelchair user who developed an online mapping platform for sharing barrier-free information, emphasizing that achieving the SDGs’ goal of “Leave No One Behind” requires that “Everyone can contribute, everywhere.”
This perspective also reflects Japan’s continued emphasis on human security, which seeks to protect and empower individuals, especially those in vulnerable situations, including persons with disabilities.
Japan’s commitments are further reflected in efforts to promote inclusive and accessible sports. Last year, Japan had the honor of hosting the 25th Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, featuring 21 sports and bringing together approximately 3,000 athletes from around 80 countries and regions.
Japan is also pleased that Mr. TAMON Hiroshi, an experienced Japanese lawyer, continues to make active contributions as a member of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Madam President,
We must build on lessons learned from the past 20 years as we strive to ensure the full enjoyment of rights and dignity by persons with disabilities without discrimination. Japan remains committed to working together with the international community to promote inclusive societies and the empowerment of persons with disabilities.
Thank you.
