会非公式会合:ビショップ・ミャンマー担当事務総長特使によるブリーフィング会合における梅津大使ステートメント
令和7年6月10日

(As delivered)
Thank you, Mr. Vice President.
Thank you for convening this important meeting. I would like to express our appreciation to the Special Envoy, Ms. Julie Bishop, for her comprehensive briefing. Japan highly values her vigorous engagement with all relevant actors and her dedicated efforts to work closely with Member States, particularly in the region. Also we welcome the recent ASEAN Leaders Statement, which noted its appreciation for the continued support from the UN in the implementation of Five Point Consensus (5PC).
The deteriorating situation in Myanmar remains our deep concern as many innocent civilians have been killed and wounded since the coup d’état in 2021. Facing such a dire situation, we strongly condemn the Myanmar military for not working toward a peaceful resolution despite repeated calls by the international community.
In this context, we are also troubled by the worsening humanitarian conditions following the earthquake on 28 March. In response, Japan extended emergency assistance, including dispatch of the Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team, provision of emergency grant of six million US dollars via UN agencies and more.
Since the coup, Japan has consistently urged the Myanmar military to immediately stop the violence, release those who are detained, and swiftly restore Myanmar’s democratic political system. All parties must comply with international law, including international humanitarian and human rights law. Japan reiterates its call for full, rapid, safe, and unhindered humanitarian access. Let me also stress that continued and genuine implementation of ceasefire, which was declared after the earthquake, is essential for this purpose.
Japan will continue to stand with the people of Myanmar and remains committed to working with the United Nations and the broader international community, including ASEAN, to improve the situation in Myanmar.
Thank you very much.
