UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS執行理事会2026年次会合における梅津大使ステートメント
令和8年2月5日

(As delivered)
At the outset, I wish to convey my gratitude to UNDP Associate Administrator and UNV Executive Coordinator for their briefings. The same gratitude goes to all UN Volunteers for their valuable work. Amid fast-changing global and local contexts, volunteerism remains a key tool in advancing peace, development, and human rights.
Japan welcomes the UNV Strategic Framework 2026-2029, including its focus on strengthening the contribution of volunteerism to the effectiveness and responsiveness of the UN system. Japan looks forward to continued close cooperation with UNV, and under the new framework, underscoring the importance of enhancing efficiency and coherence in UN system support to deliver results on the ground.
With this year marking the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development, the international community should capitalize on this moment to promote volunteerism that fosters resilience, community-based solutions, and collection action based on solidarity and inclusion. Last year at the Osaka-Kansai Expo in Japan, UNV raised public awareness around the International Year through a dedicated side event to highlight the value of volunteerism.
In this regard, UNV’s role remains central to advancing volunteerism globally. Japan commends UNV’s steadfast leadership and encourages the continued promotion of volunteerism as a means of strengthening national and local capacities, fostering knowledge exchange, and supporting sustainable development outcomes in diverse country contexts.
Japan has long recognized the valuable contributions of volunteers through its own national experience. People of all ages, including youth, older persons, women, and persons with disabilities, have actively engaged in volunteer activities, helping to build more inclusive and resilient communities in normal times and in disaster times.
In the face of global divisions, volunteerism can serve to unite people and foster a more peaceful and sustainable world. Japan reaffirms its close partnership with UNV and stands ready to further advance volunteer initiatives as an essential element of sustainable development.
Thank you.
