第8回人間の安全保障フレンズグループ会合の開催について

The 8th Meeting of the Group of Friends of Human Security was held in New York City on Thursday, 11 May 2026 (local time).
 
At the beginning of the meeting, the guest speaker, H.E. Mr. Knut Vollebaek, Chair of the Advisory Board of Human Security, noted that the human security perspective is increasingly relevant in this era of compounding crises, highlighting its strategic significance and stressing the need to integrate the concept into the policy making and resource distribution.
 
Mr. Pär Liljert, Director of the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Office in New York, raised the issue of climate mobility in Pacific Island countries through the human security lens and stressed its advantages. Ms. Dosia Calderón Maydon, Assistant Representative for UNFPA Mexico, showcased the effective implementation of the human security approach for the economic inclusion of vulnerable youth in Hidalgo state, Mexico. Ms. Yuko Mitsui, Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), introduced specific projects implemented in Palestine, Solomon Islands and Turkey to explain how JICA practices the human security framework. In addition, Mr. Raymond Gilpin, Chief Economist of UNDP, presented a report (published at the occasion of TICAD9) on the status of human security and its effective application in public policymaking in Africa.
 
Following these speakers, H.E. Mr. Kazuyuki Yamazaki, Permanent Representative of Japan to the United Nations, underlined the need to improve the visibility of human security as its importance continues to grow, and introduced a new initiative led by the Co-Chairs of the Group of Friends called “The Human Security Award”. He also stressed the importance of expanding the donor base for the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security.
 
The meeting, which was attended by more than 60 participants from UN Member States and international organizations, reaffirmed the relevance of the concept of human security today and in the future, and shared a broad understanding of the importance of promoting the concept more broadly to help solve various issues in the world.
