Statement by Ms. Yasuko Nishimura
Counsellor, Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations

Agenda item 135: Review of the efficiency of the administrative and financial functioning of the United Nations

Main Part of the Seventy-Third Session
Fifth Committee of the General Assembly

Madame Chair,

I would like to thank the Secretariat and the ACABQ for their respective reports.

Japan reiterates its strong support to the Secretary-General’s initiative and leadership on the UN reform, including in the area of management, to make the UN stronger, more integrated, coherent, and accountable.

The General Assembly adopted a resolution on management reform in the last session and the full implementation of the reform is scheduled to start from January 2019. Japan believes that the steady implementation of the reform without delay is the key to ensure the realization of potential benefit of the reform towards increased efficiency and effectiveness of the management.

For this purpose, my delegation will constructively engage in the discussion so that the draft resolution on this matter can be agreed by consensus at an earliest manner.

I thank you, Madame Chair.
