持続可能な開発に関する第2委員会討論(防災)における中川公使ステートメント

令和4年10月11日

(As delivered)
Thank you, Chair.

Japan would like to make a brief remark with respect to the report “Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030”.

In March 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake and the ensuing tsunami struck Japan. Drawing on that experience, Japan continues to put utmost emphasis on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The mid-term review of the Sendai Framework and the High-Level Meeting to be held here in New York in 2023 will be important opportunities to promote disaster preparedness and the concept of "build back better". As the UNDRR report indicates, “it is the last chance before 2030 to identify and begin implementing the innovative solutions, policies, and course corrections needed to prevent and prepare for the new and emerging risks that threaten current and future generations.”

Japan looks forward to engaging in constructive discussions in the mid-term review and welcomes the active participation of the Member States and relevant stakeholders.

In addition, Japan would like to recall that World Tsunami Awareness Day is November 5th. This year’s awareness event will be held on the previous day, November 4th and will be co-hosted by UNDRR and other Member States, including Japan. We look forward to your participation.

I thank you.
