ウクライナ情勢に関する安保理アリア・フォーミュラ会合における長野参事官ステートメント

令和6年10月25日

(as delivered)

Mr. Chair,

Today's meeting is yet another example of Russian hypocrisy and a waste of UN resources. Russia continues to wage an unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine. Russia should end it before lecturing others.

Our position is clear: Russia must withdraw from Ukraine immediately and unconditionally. This war will end when Russia decides to stop it. The solution is simple.  Yet here we are, witnessing yet another Russian effort to divert the attention of the international community.

Russia’s actions violate the core principles of the UN Charter. As a permanent member of the Security Council, Russia should be maintaining peace, not destroying it.

The aggressor will not succeed. Russia’s justification of its actions will fail, as they always have. The repeated calls of the UN General Assembly, including global south countries, clearly show that the aggressor's attempts to justify its actions never succeed.

This is not just about Ukraine. It is about defending the UN Charter and the international order based on the rule of law that ensures peace and security for all. If Russia can so easily violate international law without consequences, then no one is safe from future aggression.

We stand with Ukraine and demand that Russia return to the path of adherence to international law.

Thank you for the attention.
