UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS執行理事会第2回定例会UNDP総裁代行との対話における御巫大使ステートメント

令和7年8月25日

Thank you, Mr. President,

I would like to express my appreciation for the Acting Administrator’s comprehensive statement, which has provided us with a clear understanding of UNDP’s achievements and strategic direction for the years ahead.

Japan commends UNDP’s 60 years of impactful engagement across the globe, and regards UNDP not only as a trusted partner, but also as a steadfast champion of promoting sustainable development and human security.

Looking ahead, Japan welcomes and supports 2026–2029 Strategic Plan, developed inclusively and informed by evaluations. We value its focus on digital and AI transformation, sustainable finance, and commitment to human security. On crisis resilience, Japan supports UNDP as a “bridge-builder” across humanitarian, development, and peace efforts. The plan further reinforces UNDP’s role as an integrator, delivering holistic solutions across sectors.

In this context, we wish to highlight the outcomes of TICAD 9, co-organized with UNDP last week in Yokohama, Japan. TICAD 9 placed emphasis on sustainable finance, private sector partnerships, and digital innovation— priorities that anticipate the directions of the new Strategic Plan. By advancing innovative financing frameworks, improving credit rating, and promoting inclusive digital transformation, TICAD 9 has in many ways “echoed” the vision now enshrined in the Strategic Plan. These priorities resonate with UNDP’s role as a catalyst, enabling countries to access and leverage diverse financing. Japan and UNDP, as equal partners, are committed to translating these commitments into tangible action across Africa and beyond.

We underscore the importance of core resources as the foundation of UNDP’s flexibility and effectiveness. At the same time, we endorse UNDP’s continuing efforts to diversify development financing. As private sector engagement grows in importance, UNDP’s catalytic role in building enabling ecosystems and fostering innovation will become ever more vital.

Moreover, we believe that UNDP’s efforts to enhance efficiency and make better use of available resources can maximize its own strengths. Japan hopes such efforts will progress through close cooperation with member states.

Finally, Japan reaffirms its unwavering commitment to work side by side with UNDP to achieve the SDGs, while further strengthening our partnership and advancing collaboration on our shared priorities.

I thank you.
