自発的国家レビュー(VNR)LABにおける我が国VNRに関する木村大使開催挨拶

令和3年7月16日
(As delivered)

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, wherever you are thank you for joining us today. At the outset, I want to thank UN DESA for giving us the opportunity to introduce Japan’s VNR and its efforts to achieve the SDGs in this VNR Lab.

Yesterday, Japan presented its second VNR at the HLPF. The process of drafting the VNR gave us an opportunity not only to review our progress and challenges in achieving the SDGs, but also to engage relevant stakeholders to discuss how we can best promote the SDGs.

The continued spread of COVID-19 is causing a serious human security crisis around the world. Indeed, it overshadows the prospects of achieving the SDGs. As we build back better from the pandemic and redouble our efforts to put the SDGs back on track, Japan believes that we must be guided by the principle of“Leave No One Behind.”In this connection, based on the concept of human security, Japan proposes to set the goal of “leaving no one’s health behind” and to work towards achieving the Universal Health Coverage.

We also need to accelerate our efforts to foster collaboration among multi-stakeholders. Therefore, we would like to showcase today not only the contents of our VNR but also how each stakeholder in Japan has taken actions to promote the SDGs.

The HLPF is a forum where Member States and other stakeholders can exchange lessons learned to accelerate global actions to achieve the SDGs. I hope this event will generate momentum to stimulate further actions and cooperation for our common goal, the SDGs.

Thank you very much.
