2022年UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS執行理事会年次会合における木村大使による国連ボランティア計画に関するステートメント

令和4年6月9日
Madam President,
Dear Executive Coordinator,

My delegation would like to thank Executive Coordinator Toily Kurbanov for his comprehensive statement today, and would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the UNV Executive Coordinator, the UNV team and all the UN Volunteers around the globe for the positive results achieved in 2021.

UNV has been an important partner in our efforts to support developing countries in achieving the SDGs. In 2021, 103 Japanese nationals served as international UN Volunteers, of whom 72 were fully funded by the Government of Japan to support the implementation of 2030 Agenda in the UN system during this Decade of Action and beyond.

On UNV’s valuable contribution on the ground, my delegation commends UNV’s ongoing COVID-19 response since the outset of the pandemic, which has caused serious human security crises. Volunteers have played and continue to play an important role in their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Japan has provided additional funding to UNV to deploy Japanese health and hygiene professionals as UN Volunteers to assist various UN agencies in their response on the ground. The Global Health Volunteer Initiative (GHVI) is one such example of cooperation between UNV and Japan during the ongoing pandemic.

I also would like to mention the successful adoption of GA resolution 76/131 and the informal GA event last December on the 20th anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers and the 50th anniversary of the UNV programme, to which the Government of Japan was a co-sponsor and co-organizer. As noted in the resolution, my delegation hopes that the UN system and the Member States will support efforts to integrate volunteerism into the planning for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and promote a conducive environment for volunteerism and volunteers to enhance the sustainability of development results.

In closing, I would like reiterate Japan’s strong expectations for UNV’s unique role and function in our efforts to achieve the SDGs during the “Decade of Action”.

Thank you.
