国連女性機関執行理事会2019年第二回定期会合における川村大使ステートメント
令和元年9月9日
(As delivered)
Madame President,
At the outset, I would like to thank Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN-Women, for her comprehensive statement. I would also like to express my gratitude to Your Excellency, Ms. Pennelope Beckles, Ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago, for your dedicated work as the President of the Executive Board.
Madame President,
We thank UN-Women’s effort in preparation of the integrated budget estimates. We find it realistic, and hope that it will be approved by consensus.
This year, Japan has already made a disbursement of 3.9 million US dollars to UN-Women’s core resources and an additional disbursement of 12 million dollars to non-core resources, most of which aims to support women’s leadership, empowerment, access and protection (LEAP) in crisis response under the Flagship Programming Initiatives.
In addition, the Government of Japan decided last month to support the project for the Implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda (WPS) in Sri Lanka under the G7 WPS Partnership Initiative, in the amount of 2 million US dollars, for the purpose of empowering women to strengthen the peacebuilding process in Sri Lanka.
We hope that UN-Women will continue its efforts to enhance accountability, efficiency and effectiveness in all its activities. We would also like to emphasize that their results should be widely visible to the public. We believe these points are important for UN-Women to garner further confidence and trust from donor-contributors and taxpayers.
Madame President,
We commend that UN-Women achieved its highest revenue in 2018 by deepening and broadening its partnership base. We encourage UN-Women to continue its efforts to expand its donor-base, which is fundamental to ensuring sustainable funding.
We are delighted to announce that we will hold the first policy dialogue between Japan and UN-Women at the end of this month. We expect that this dialogue will deepen our discussion on agendas of mutual interest and further strengthen our cooperation.
In closing, as we approach 2020, a landmark year for women’s agendas, I would like to reaffirm that Japan will continue to make extensive efforts to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in close cooperation with UN-Women as well as the Member States.
I thank you.
