アフガニスタンの女性・フレンズグループ会合における石兼大使ステートメント
令和4年3月15日
Madame President,
I would like to express my appreciation to the co-hosts for convening this important event at this critical timing leading up to the mandate renewal of UNAMA. I also thank other speakers and briefers for the comprehensive updates.
The international community is gravely concerned about the current human security crisis in Afghanistan, which threatens the survival, livelihood and dignity of people in most vulnerable situations, including women and girls. They are denied of access to employment, education and freedom of movement. For the people and Government of Japan, having supported women in Afghanistan by prioritizing their protection, empowerment and full and meaningful participation to the peace process, the current situation, where their human rights are violated, is excruciating .
UNAMA’s work, together with other UN institutions, is indispensable to ensure the human security of the Afghan women and girls, and a comprehensive and gender-responsive renewal of its mandate is essential. Japan supports strengthening of UNAMA’s mandates, and will monitor closely the actions the Taliban will take in relation to human rights, and participate actively in the international efforts, including those led by UNAMA and by the UN system as a whole.
I thank you.
