UHC Joint Statement to the UN Deputy Secretary-General

On 7 October, the UN Secretary-General's policy brief “COVID-19 and Universal Health Coverage” was launched [1]. Japan has been making efforts to promote UHC in cooperation with other UN Member States, and at that time, a joint statement in support of the issuance of this SG policy brief was proposed jointly with Georgia and Thailand, the co-chairs the Group of Friends of UHC. The joint statement has received the support of a total of 120 Member States as co-sponsors.
 
On 5 November, Ambassador Ishikane, together with the Permanent Representatives of Georgia and Thailand, delivered a joint statement to UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, stating that the Member States concerned would work together with the UN to promote UHC in order to deal with COVID-19, and the Deputy Secretary-General endorsed the statement.
