Ms. Loraine Sievers, ex-Chief of the Security Council Affairs Branch, Security Council Affairs Division of the United Nations, Decorated by Japan

The Japanese Government announced its decision to decorate Ms. Loraine Sievers ex-Chief of the Security Council Affairs Branch, Security Council Affairs Division of the United Nations, with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to promoting Japan’s diplomatic efforts in the United Nations Security Council.
In her more than thirty years of service in Security Council Affairs, Ms. Sievers, as an expert of Security Council had contributed to the smooth and effective conduct of the Security Council with her expertise and knowledge. In her most recent post at the United Nations, as Chief of Security Council Affairs Branch of Security Council Affairs Division, and after leaving the United Nations, she rendered significant assistance to members of the Security Council including Japan, by providing valuable advice in order for those countries to effectively discharge their responsibilities in the Council.
In particular, Ms. Sievers assisted Japan which served as Chair of the Informal Working Group on Documentation and Other Procedural Questions of the Security Council over several terms with her expertise and made major contributions to the issuing and revisions of the Handbook on the Working Methods of the Security Council (Presidential Note 507). While maintaining her integrity and impartiality as an international civil servant, Ms. Sievers has made a substantive contribution to Japan’s efforts to promote its foreign policy on Security Council affairs.
