Explanation of Position (EOP) by Ms. FURUKAWA Yuri, Third Secretary, Economic Section, Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations, at the Second Committee Plenary Meeting on the Revitalization of the Work of the Second Committee

Thank you, Mr. Chair.
 
Japan wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the Bureau and the Secretariat for their tireless efforts in guiding us through this long and challenging process. Japan also appreciates the sustained and constructive engagement shown by all Member States throughout the process toward the realization of our shared goals.
 
Together we have examined multiple dimensions of the work of the Second Committee and reached an outcome containing tangible and substantive measures.
 
At a time when resource constraints across the United Nations system are particularly severe, the measures we have agreed on to make more effective use of this Committee’s limited time and capacity, by improving efficiency while maintaining its substantive work, represent meaningful progress.
 
Japan looks forward to the effective implementation of this outcome beginning with the eighty-first session, as it is essential that these measures be translated into practice. We stand ready to continue contributing constructively toward a more focused, efficient, and impactful Second Committee.
