(Check against delivery)
Mr. Chair,
At the conclusion of this session, I would like to thank His Excellency Ambassador Kridelka, the Chair of the Committee, the bureau members, and the Fifth Committee Secretariat for facilitating the discussions during the First Resumed Session.
I would also like to express my gratitude to all the facilitators for their tireless efforts and tremendous contributions to guiding and expediting the negotiations.
Mr. Chair,
Regarding Human Resources Management, Japan is pleased that we were able to adopt a resolution for the first time in over six years to provide a solid guidance to the United Nations, toward achieving a more effective, efficient, and inclusive organization. This has been a difficult negotiation process, but we all believed in the importance of making the United Nations more effective and efficient and ensuring that it continues to make progress on its reform agenda, which enabled us to go through the negotiation process with success.
My delegation is also content that the Committee managed to find common ground on several important agendas, especially on accountability, since it has been three years since we last provided a solid guidance to the Secretariat on this significant matter. We were able to work in good faith, find compromises and reach a consensus by bridging the gaps in a constructive and inclusive manner.
I am also delighted to share that on the Peacebuilding Fund, Japan joined the consolidated proposal from EU, CANZ, ROK, and the Africa Group, along with the United Kingdom and the United States, as champions and contributors to the Peacebuilding efforts.
Mr. Chair,
Japan remains committed to striving our efforts so that the UN can continue to deliver its mandates and uphold its principles enshrined in the Charter. We look forward to working with all of you during the Second Resumed Session.
Lastly, I would like to offer our sincere gratitude and respect to all the staff around the world working for the United Nations, for their contribution and their service to the world.
Thank you, Mr. Chair.
