Peace Bell Ceremony

On September 16th, the annual Peace Bell Ceremony was held in the Japanese Garden at the United Nations Headquarters and Ambassador ISHIKANE and Madame ISHIKANE attended this event.
The ceremony was attended by the H.E. Mr. António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Csaba Kőrösi, President of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General, Mr. Courtenay Rattray, Chef de Cabinet to the United Nations Secretary-General, and Ms. Melissa Fleming, Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the 77th Session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Csaba Kőrösi, gave remarks and rang the Peace Bell to commemorate the International Day of Peace with strong hopes for World Peace. The Ceremony was celebrated and concluded in a serene atmosphere.

- The Peace Bell was originally cast from coins collected from 60 different countries. It was donated to the United Nations by the United Nations Association of Japan on June 8th, 1954. It has become a tradition to ring the bell on the International Day of Peace (21 September).
