Peace Bell Ceremony

On September 13th, the annual Peace Bell Ceremony was held in the Japanese Garden at the United Nations Headquarters, with Ambassador YAMAZAKI and Madame YAMAZAKI attending this event.
 
The Ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Philémon Yang, President of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General, Mr. Guy Bernard Ryder, Under-Secretary-General for Policy, and Ms. Melissa Fleming, Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications.
 
UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the 79th Session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Philémon Yang, gave remarks and rang the Peace Bell to commemorate the International Day of Peace with strong hopes for World Peace.
 
The Peace Bell was originally cast from coins collected from 60 different countries. It was donated to the United Nations by the United Nations Association of Japan on June 8th, 1954. It has become a tradition to ring the bell on the International Day of Peace (21 September).
