On April 30, Ambassador YAMAZAKI, co-hosted a reception with the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs at the Poster House Museum in New York on the margins of the 11th NPT Review Conference.
The event was attended by Hiroshima Governor Ms. Yokota, Nagasaki Vice Governor Ms. Baba, Hiroshima City Mayor Mr. Matsui, Nagasaki City Mayor Mr. Suzuki and their delegations, as well as youth from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, representatives from Japanese NGOs, and UN officials and youth.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador YAMAZAKI emphasized the importance of the role youth play in nuclear disarmament and expressed Japan’s commitment to the NPT and its determination to promote deeper understanding of the realities of the atomic bombings.
The reception also featured a panel discussion by alumni and participants of the “Youth Leaders Fund for a World Without Nuclear Weapons (YLF)” program, which is funded by the Government of Japan. It provided an opportunity for lively exchange of views and networking among the attendees.
This was followed by a presentation on the recommendations of the IGEP, as well as a panel discussion among participants, including IGEP members, experts, and government officials, based on the recommendations.
