On 23 March, 30 students participating in the 8th “Think of Okinawa’s Future in the U.S. (TOFU)” program visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations and paid a courtesy call with Ambassador MIKANAGI. During the visit, Ambassador MIKANAGI provided an overview of Japan’s role in the United Nations and the broader international community, and offered words of encouragement for the students’ future endeavors.

In addition, Counsellor SUZUKI delivered a briefing on the functions of the United Nations Security Council. The students then participated in a group exercise reviewing Japanese government statements, through which they gained practical insights into international decision-making processes.
On the same day, the TOFU program participants also attended a lecture by Ms. Kazumi OGAWA, Director of the Mine Action Service at the United Nations Department of Peace Operations (UNMAS). During the lecture, the students learned about UNMAS’s objectives and activities, as well as Japan’s contributions in this field. The session included a lively question-and-answer segment, fostering active discussion and engagement.
