UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s Visit to Japan

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan will visit Japan for four days from Friday, 9 December to Monday, 12 December 2005. This is a working visit upon invitation by Minister for Foreign Affairs. The Secretary-General's visit to Japan will be his first since Feburary 2004 and his seventh visit to Japan. The visit is a part of his 14-day official trip to China, the Republic of Korea, Japan and Vietnam.

The purpose of his visit is to exchange views on the issues the international community faces now, such as the reform of the UN.

During his stay in Japan, the Secretary-Genreal is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, Foreign Minister Taro Aso and Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe.
