Building on the results of the First Biennial Meeting of States to Consider the Implementation of the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons, chaired by Japanese Ambassador Kuniko Inoguchi in July of this year, the First Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted on 6 November a resolution jointly proposed by Japan, South Africa and Colombia regarding the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All its Aspects.
