Explanation of Vote:
Participation of the EU in the Work of the United Nations

Mr. President,

Japan voted in favor of the draft resolution on “Participation of the European Union in the Work of the United Nations,” and welcomes the development of the EU based on the Lisbon Treaty, as Japan and the EU are global partners which jointly engage in global issues.

Japan believes that the resolution must be implemented in accordance with the provisions and spirits of the Charter of the United Nations and with the consent of the Member States, fully taking into consideration that the United Nations is an organization which is composed of sovereign states and that the sovereignty of the Member States is equal.
