Stakeout by Ambassador Nishida

on the occasion of the Adoption of the Resolution on Situation of Human Rights

in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

27 November 2012

On 27 November, Ambassador Tsuneo Nishida, Permanent Representative of Japan to the United Nations, made remarks to Japanese correspondents after the adoption by the Third Committee of the resolution on the Situation of Human Rights in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

At the stakeout, Ambassador Nishida mentioned that although in previous years a large number of Member States voted in favor of the same, this is the first time for the Committee to adopt it by consensus. Ambassador Nishida welcomed this fact as a strong message from the international community to the DPRK. Also, Ambassador Nishida strongly urged the DPRK to take this message seriously and take concrete measures to improve the situation of human rights including the abduction issues.
