Briefing by Ambassador Kodama to Kwansei Gakuin University Students

       On August 9th, a group of students from Kwansei Gakuin University visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations to receive a briefing by Ambassador Kodama, Deputy Permanent Representative of Japan to the United Nations.


        First, Ambassador Kodama discussed the series of democratic movements in Asia and Middle East and the responses by the Security Council. The Ambassador also touched upon the term “Responsibility to Protect” and described how UN action regarding conflict situations has been evolving with this concept. In addition, the Ambassador noted the fact that there has been international recognition of a series of Japanese contributions in the past related to overcoming international challenges. The Ambassador then disclosed his views on how Japan should act today so that Japan continues to receive positive recognition from the international community. Finally, he touched upon the importance of Security Council Reform. During the briefing, the students actively participated in his discussion.


        Afterwards, Ms. Yajima, First Secretary, gave a brief information session on the application process for United Nations jobs and careers to encourage the students to apply in the future.
