On 3 May 2007, the Permanent Mission of Japan held the annual Japanese tea ceremony in the northeast garden of the United Nations.
Honored guests such as Madam Ban Soon-taek enjoyed a bowl of thin tea with Permanent Representatives of several Member States and Under-Secretaries-General of the United Nations while viewing the cherry trees in full bloom in the North Garden of the United Nations.
The two sessions of the ceremony were led by Mr. Hisashi Yamada of the Urasenke Chanoyu Center in New York, a master of chado, or way of tea.
Approximately 50 guests attended the ceremony hosted by Ambassadors Kenzo Oshima and Takahiro Shinyo.
