On 8 January 2007, the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations, together with the Consulate General of Japan in New York and Safari Media, sponsored a film screening of “Abduction: the Megumi Yokota Story” at the United Nations.
About 150 guests attended the event, including former U.S. Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger.
The film tells the story of the 1977 abduction of 13-year-old Megumi Yokota, by North Korean spies, and her parents’ struggle to bring her back to Japan.
The film also touches upon the subject of the abduction of Japanese citizens by North Korea.
After the screening, the directors of the documentary, Mr. Christopher Sheridan and Ms. Patty Kim, answered questions from the audience regarding the making of the film and the abduction issues.
