The Mission of Japan hosted a student briefing on 1 August for the 72 members of the 2006 Japan-America Student Conference (JASC). H.E. Dr. Shinichi Kitaoka, Deputy Permanent Representative of Japan, briefed the students on Japan’s role in the United Nations and touched upon current topics such as UN reform, human security, disarmament, peacekeeping, and humanitarian affairs. He then opened the floor to questions from the students.

Established in 1934, the JASC is the oldest student-run educational and cultural exchange program between Japan and the United States.
