Classical Music Concert Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Japan’s Membership in the United Nations

On 22 May 2006, the Permanent Mission of Japan sponsored a classical music concert in the General Assembly Hall to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations and Japan’s 50th Anniversary of membership in the UN.


Over 1,000 guests attended the concert. Led by Maestro Atsushi Yamada, the Asian Artists & Concerts (AAC) orchestra played a selection of works, including Sibelius’ Finlandia, Op. 26, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, and opera scenes from Romeo et Juliet, La Traviata, and Madama Butterfly.


The AAC orchestra is comprised of young musicians from several Asian countries.
