On 28 April 2006, the Permanent Mission of Japan held a Japanese tea ceremony in the northeast garden of the United Nations.

Approximately 80 guests attended the ceremony hosted by Ambassadors Kenzo Oshima and Shinichi Kitaoka.

Mr. Hisashi Yamada of the Urasenke Chanoyu Center of New York gave an introduction to chado, or the way of tea, as guests were served thin tea and sweets.
