Permanent Representative Kenzo Oshima and Deputy Permanent Representative Shinichi Kitaoka hosted the annual Japanese Tea Ceremony at the United Nations on 27 May 2005. Permanent representatives of numerous Member States and several Under-Secretaries-General of the United Nations enjoyed a bowl of thin tea and a traditional sweet under the cherry trees in the North Garden of the United Nations. Both sessions of the ceremony were led by Sensei Hisashi Yamada of the Urasenke Chanoyu Center in New York.
