On February 12, Ambassador Tsuneo Nishida, Permanent
Representative of Japan to the United Nations, conducted a stakeout with
Japanese correspondents after the Security Council meeting on North Korea’s
nuclear test.
During the stakeout, Ambassador Nishida expressed sincere
regret at North Korea’s decision to conduct the nuclear test which the
international community had been pressing the country to refrain from carrying
out. He stated that the Japanese government takes this act very seriously,
expressing sharp protest and dispraising the act in a determined manner. In his
final remarks to the press, he assured that Japan will cooperate with other
countries in urging that Security Council to adopt a resolution which includes
strict sanctions on the basis of the series of previous resolutions.
