1. After the impartial selection process with 10 judges (5 artists/creators based in New York and 5 officials of the Japanese Foreign Ministry), the Permanent Mission of Japan announced with pleasure the official logo for the events entitled “Peace is…” A public competition of the logo was conducted from February 16th, 2017 to March 10th, 2017. There were a total of 44 applicants from 17 countries such as Nigeria, India, Brazil, Indonesia, Haiti, U.S., Australia, Italy, Canada, Egypt, Philippines, France, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ukraine, Turkey, and Japan. In addition to a large number of applicants, we received a total of 86 submissions. The winning logo will be used for the events related to the “Peace is…” in 2017.
2. The creator of the logo is Mr. Baku Sakashita who is a Japanese citizen residing in Geneva, Switzerland, and is currently studying at ECAL (Ecole Cantonale d' Art de Lausanne). Mr. Sakashita graduated from Musashino Art University in Tokyo, Japan.
3. Mr. Sakashita explains in his logo description that the shape of the symbol was made with the image of a bowl that would catch the wishes of people around the world seeking peace. Additionally, he made the color of the bowl gold to symbolize his hope for Japan, together with its friends, to be able to make great contributions toward peace. The red circle in between the words "PEACE" and "IS" represents the Hinomaru (the Japanese flag).
Congratulations Mr. Sakashita! For more information about the upcoming “Peace is…” events, please follow our SNS Twitter and Facebook.
