March 3rd, 2016
On Thursday, March 3rd, 2016, 18 students from Bunkyo University visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations to receive a lecture by Counsellor Fukahori. Counsellor Fukahori began his lecture by introducing what he currently does at the Mission. As an introduction to the UN, he explained the difference between the General Assembly and the Security Council, especially in their systems and decision-making processes. He then explained that Japan was recently elected as the non-permanent member of the Security Council for the record 11th time last October, and is now at the forefront of the organization, acting proactively toward solving issues that threaten international community by raising the North Korea issue as an example. Students responded to his lecture by raising questions on various subjects including the abduction issue, Security Council reform, PKO Operations, and 2030 Agenda.
