Lecture to Osaka Seikei Girls High School by Counsellor Tsutsumi
16 July 2015
On July 16th, 27 students from the Osaka Seikei Girls High School visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations, and received a lecture by Counsellor Taro Tsutsumi. Counsellor Tsutsumi began the lecture by explaining how he started working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan. He also discussed the structure of the UN, and noted that the organization serves an important role in solving various difficult issues such as climate change and disarmament that require contributions from the member states. He ended the lecture by emphasizing the importance of gaining a global perspective, which is “putting ourselves in the shoes of those who are from the other side of the world, and share common feelings such as joy and pain with them.” Students raised questions on his student life, why he chose the current career path, and difficulties he faces at work. Counsellor Tsutsumi answered these questions while referring to his work tasks.
