The Ceremony for the Conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays and Rosette on Mr. Alexander Ilitchev, Former Senior Officer, Asia and the Pacific Division, Department of Political Affairs, the United Nations

On July 2nd, 2015, the ceremony for the conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays and Rosette upon Mr. Alexander Ilitchev, Former Senior Officer of the Asia and the Pacific Division in the Department of Political Affairs at the United Nations, was held. During the ceremony, Ambassador Yoshikawa highlighted the distinguished contributions of Mr. Ilitchev throughout his service, and with words of congratulations, bestowed upon him the decoration and medal. Mr. Ilitchev expressed his appreciation and extreme gratitude to those who have supported him throughout this distinguished career in the Department of Political Affairs. UN Deputy-Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Jan Eliasson, proposed a toast on behalf of the United Nations, in honor of Mr. Ilitchev’s decoration. Mr. Alexander Ilitchev, former diplomat of the Soviet Union, previously served in the American Bureau of the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and also in the Permanent Mission of the Soviet Union to the UN. After joining the Department of Political Affairs as a senior officer of the Asia and Pacific Division, and team leader for Northeast Asia, Mr. Ilitchev greatly contributed to enhancing Japan's presence at the United Nations and helping Japan realize its national interests. In addition to UN Deputy-Secretary-General Eliasson, the ceremony was attended by a number of Under-Secretaries-General, UN officials, Permanent Representatives of UN Missions, and guests who have close connections with Mr. Ilitchev.
