The Ceremony for the Conferment of the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon on Mr. Toshiyuki Niwa, Former Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF

On July 1st, 2015, a ceremony for the conferment of the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon upon Mr. Toshiyuki Niwa, Former Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF, was held.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Yoshikawa highlighted the distinguished contributions of Mr. Niwa throughout his long career, and with words of congratulations bestowed upon him the decoration and medal.

Mr. Niwa expressed his appreciation and gratitude to those who supported him throughout his career.

Since 1990, Mr. Niwa served continuously in senior posts of the United Nations, as Assistant Administrator and Director of UNDP, Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Coordinator for Common Services of the UN Department of Management, and Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF. 

According to Ambassador Yoshikawa, Mr. Niwa demonstrated an exceptional commitment throughout his years as a senior official of the UN, and by becoming the first Japanese official to be appointed Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF, made great contributions in pursuing the national interests of Japan.

Mr. Niwa continues to make great efforts by training the future generation of Japanese staff at the United Nations.
