Haiku Contest and Awards Ceremony 2015

On June 6th, 2015 Haiku Contest Awards Ceremony was held at the United Nations, hosted by United Nations International School (UNIS),the Northwest Council of Teachers of Japanese (NWCTJ) together with the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations.

This year's Awards Ceremony took place in the United Nations to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the contest.
In addition to Japanese and English divisions, the contest was expanded for the first time by establishing new foreign language divisions composed of Arabic, French, Italian, and Spanish. As a result, 1600 poems were submitted from all over the world. This number was the largest on record, making the ceremony a great success.

The awards ceremony began with opening remarks by Ms. Jane Camblin, Executive Director of United Nations International School and Ambassador Yoshifumi Okamura from the Mission of Japan. After the remarks, students who received prizes were recognized and given certificates. These students received comments and feedback from the judges.

The awards ceremony was followed by a reception accompanied by the violin performance by a student from UNIS. The guests including prize winners, parents, and teachers enjoyed the reception.
