Lecture to Yokohama City University Students by Minister Kuno

On March 3, 11 students from Yokohama City University visited the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations to receive a lecture from Minister Kuno.

Minister Kuno explained gender and human rights issues that are related to the students’ main studies: Human Security, Women in Africa, and Economic and Social Development. He also noted the significance of the UN Charter in the current situation of the international community. He also explained Japan’s contribution as well as its active attitude to the gender issue.

He also noted the current UN tasks such as Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Post-2015 Development Agenda as well as the establishment and ongoing situation in UN Trust Fund for Human Security. In explaining these subjects, he explained Japan’s stance as “proactive contributor to peace” and the role Security Council Reform plays in the international community.

After the lecture, Minister Kuno answered the questions raised by students on subjects such as UN Trust Fund for Human Security, Millennium Development Goals, gender issues, and the significance of Japan’s assistance to eradicating poverty in Africa.
